New Myspace Lows
As anyone who uses MySpace is blatantly aware of the fact that you get a lot of requests from porno friends. By porno friends I mean a picture of a scantily clad hottie, who wants to be your friend and who also has "Hot Personal Pics" on some outside page. These are spam, they are annoying, and they are one of the biggest negatives about MySpace.
However, the other day, I got a friend request that I assumed was of the porno variety until I looked at the picture. Here it is below:
Now, this is just my opinion, but this image did not exactly make me want to be friends with this girl. Not that there is anything wrong with her. She's just not my type.
On the other hand, I did think that it was a real friend request of some random girl who looked at my profile, so I clicked and looked at hers. Normally when I see a porno friend request, I just automatically mark it as spam. So either the spammers are getting smarter or Im thinking too far into porno friends.

Huge Crab!
Go check out Hugecrab.com, it is a site dedicated to the internet's abundant supply of huge crab. A friend of mine started it a few days ago and it has been a huge success. Here is a preview of what you can expect:

Admittedly, this is an older youtube video, but I just watched it last night and it made me crack up. If you are having a bum day, this will fix all your problems.

Surf Riding
Surfing is awesome. I started about two months ago and have been going about three days a week give or take a day. Really, the only reason I'm typing this right now is because the water was a little too cold for no wet suit today. There is something really invigorating about getting up at 6 in the morning and heading to the ocean to battle mother nature. Sometimes she's a bitch, sometimes she's moody, and sometimes she just crushes you. But no matter what, every day you go out there is a window for you to catch something. When you do, it is one of the sweetest feelings period. Plus then you get out of the water and walk around looking like a badass with a surfboard. So get off your ass and go find your window.

Facebook Issues
Facebook is a great tool. I have been using it since mid-2004 and have hardly had a problem with this killer internet app. However, lately as I have been trying to use Facebook as a marketing tool for my internet series Tucson Underground, I have come into some rather annoying difficulties. First, we created a group and invited all of our friends to join to show their support and also so that we could have an easy way to mass message our audience. After a little while, we maxed out on the friends of the creators and we wanted to get more members.
Problem number one: There is no simple way for members of a group to invite all of their friends. A given member has no other option than to sit at their computer sending one invite at a time.
Problem number two: As a work around to issue number one, we gave certain friends of ours admin status so that they could add all of their friends to the list in a more streamlined way (admins can select all their friends and then invite, instead of sending out one at a time). Problem is, the Facebook server cannot handle sending out so many invites at once, so the browser just stops.
Problem number three: Apparently some of the invites from those lists were sent out to individuals who became members of the group. However, the list of people waiting to be sent invites did not change. I contacted Facebook and they told me to remove the invites and start over using only 300 at a time. So I started to go through removing hundreds of invites. Next thing I know, our member numbers have dropped about 60 members. What happened was, certain people were already in the group and when I removed them from the invite list, I accidentally removed them from the group itself. Balls in my mouth.
So now I am in a back and forth email conversation with Facebook's tech support. Hopefully this will all be resolved shortly.
If Facebook plans on being the dominant social network they need to ensure that their infrastructure is expanding as fast as the members of the network need it or they will surely run into more problems. This is especially true as people turn Facebook into a place of business (especially marketing) as well as pleasure. Having to cap the number of invites sent and making it extremely tedious for people to invite all their friends to a group only slows Facebook's growth.
I am still a fan of Facebook and I still think it is the best option out there at the moment.
Oh, by the way, Facebook is down right now so I had to find another way to kill a few minutes and this is what happened. Yet another reason for Facebook to get their shit together.

Free Pay Phone Calls
Today I was up in the mountains and I had no cell phone service, so I decided to use the payphone. I needed to call in to work to try and get the day off, but I didnt know the number by heart, so I called 1-800-GOOG-411 (google's free 411 service, great deal on a side note). Now, after I gave them the information and got the number, Google connected me without having to put any money into the pay phone.
So, if you ever need to use the pay phone, but find yourself short of the necessary change, go through google's 411 service and the call will be free. I think this only works with businesses, but its still a nifty trick.

La Tierra
Nature is a great thing. It really helps you to recheck your life and realize that you are just a tiny speck of a much greater existence than yourself. I am currently spending the weekend in Big Sur, CA which is about 6 hours north of LA. Even though I am not completely away from civilization, I am online right now. It still feels good to take a step back and breath for a while. Thats all. From time to time everyone needs to remove themselves from their situation, no matter what it is. It can be good, bad, sad, terrifying, whetever. Take a break, go outside and enjoy the wonders of the world around you.

Internet Series
Tucson Underground was launched about a week an a half ago at www.nategrace.com. It is an internet series that I have been working on for over two years with some friends of mine. Everyone should check it out and tell their friends as well.
Also the new Sausage Fest series is in the pre-production phase. We have just finished outlining the season and we are beginning to write a treatment for each individual episode. It is going to be fucking hilarious. Stay Tuned.

Repubs O Eight
So like a true political nerd I sat down and watched the whole republican presidential debate last night on MSNBC. I have to say that they one thing that really stood out in my mind was the amount of candidates that had their eyes on Iran. First of all Iran is probably a country to be worried about. However, they are a much more formidable foe than Iraq could ever be. Also I cannot understand how these candidates think that they will be elected when they are pushing for war in Iran and we are still fumbling in Iraq. Not to mention that the majority of the American people think that we are failing in Iraq.
Overall, I think that Romney, Giuliani, and McCain (all of whom already have the public's attention) did the best job at getting their positions accross and not stumbling when answering questions. Duncan Hunter scares me. During one of his responses, he completely avoided the question and went into a tirade about the Iran threat and how we must deal with them immediately. Jim Gilmore just comes off as a douche bag and Mike Huckabee seems alright, but he is also seems kinda soft. Tommy Thompson and Tom Tancredo did a fine job, but neither really blew my dress up. Lastly, Sam Brownback carried himself well and did a good job of getting his positions accross, but something about him just bothers me. Not to mention Ms. Brownback during a post-debate interview looked like she was a special bus regular.
The other element of the debate that engaged my brain was the Reagan ass kissing. Admittedly the debate took place in Reagan's library, but seriously. Every candidate on stage mentioned Reagan's name multiple times in an effort to associate themselves with the last uber popular conservative. I find it quite ironic because, for the voters, it is more of a question of what will you do to improve my life in the next four years and less about which past politicians you relate to. Also because many of the candidates tried to distance themselves from the current Bush administration and especially the decisions regarding the war in Iraq. As a whole the candidates are trying to distance themselves from the current negative sentiment towards the party and revive the overwhelming support for the great communicator.
As we are still a year and a half away from the 08 elections, anything is possible at this point. The one thing I know for sure is that it is very entertaining to watch candidates try and defend their positions while at the same time trying to appeal to the broadest base of the American voting population that they can.

The First Of May
The first of May is upon us. There are a lot of things going on in my life in this month of may. Today my brother was inaugurated as president of the student's association at the University of Arizona. In less than two weeks, I will be graduating from the University of Arizona. Two weeks after that I will be packing up my life and moving away from Tucson for good and moving to Los Angeles. I've known that all of this was coming for quite a long time, but certain realities are just beginning to set in.
1. I am done with my formal education.
2. All of my goals for the "future" must be set in motion now.
3. There are no arbitrary breaks or set times for levels of achievement anymore. It is now my responsibility to set these times.
4. I am leaving the city that I have lived in my entire life.
5. I am solely responsible for my life.
6. I will never see many of the friends that I take for granted in college.
7. I can no longer say "it's cool, I'm in college" and get away with it.
8. I have plans for the future, but not plans for now.
9. I must continue my education on my own.
10. I will miss these times.
Not to be a total serious downer, I am very excited and ready to get out of Tucson. I have friends in Los Angeles and will be living with friends. I'm ready to try and apply some of my knowledge instead of writing papers about bulsh. And most of all I'm ready to prove to myself that I can accomplish the many goals that have been marinating in my brain these last four years.
On a lighter note:
I want
Reefer Madness
Dumb Business
Well Done

MSM Is Just Afraid
Jeff Jarvis at Buzzmachine has a great post about MSNBC's failure to take advantage of YouTube or other internet video outlets for the Democratic debate.
This is just another example of the mainstream media not understanding the demands of their viewership. People want to be able to get the information they need whenever they choose not when they are told it is available. The argument that posting videos on YouTube is taking away viewers of MSNBC, or any other network, is just a way to mask their fear. If people are already posting content from your television station, why not eliminate it by posting the content yourself and linking back to your site?
This is a free form of advertising on the part of the network. If people watch a video clip on YouTube that they enjoy I think that they are more likely to watch the programming when it is broadcast on TV. If the TV station themselves posted the videos and had links back to their site, this would bring in even more viewers because they wouldn't have to change mediums, The viewers can see more content when they want, which is usually immediately. Then the station could essentially take an audience from YouTube straight to their site.
Ahh...it is frustrating to watch the mainstream media fumble with the internet like an old man who has lived in solitude for decades and then one day he is approached by a stifling hottie but he can't remember how to handle such new and exciting beauty so he shits himself and whines.
